Effective July, 1, 2019, DQS Inc. is now accredited as a certification body for the Energy Management standard, ISO 50001:2018.
With its current revision published August 20, 2018, ISO 50001:2018 aims to help organizations establish the systems and processes to improve their energy performance, including efficiency and consumption. ISO 50001 is designed to help companies enhance their use of energy-consuming assets, evaluate and prioritize the implementation of energy-efficient technology, and promote efficiency throughout the supply chain. The standard specifies requirements for measurement, documentation and reporting, equipment design and procurement processes. Using the familiar Plan-Do-Check-Act model, it is applicable to all types and sizes of organizations.
ISO 50001:2018 helps businesses identify how much and what type of energy is being used, where it is being used, implement controls to manage usage, and identify areas that waste energy as a means of helping reduce cost. It can also help with legal compliance, reputation, and continuity. For more information, please see DQS’s white paper on the subject.
Existing energy customers can transition at any time during the transition period, either through a recertification audit, surveillance audit, or a specially scheduled transition audit.
Key dates include February 19, 2020, after which audits will be performed to the requirements of ISO 50001:2018. All certificates issued to ISO 50001:2011 will expire as of August 19, 2021.
