Responsible Care® global chemical industry performance initiative reduces emissions by 75 percent; posts significant improvements in employee safety in U.S.

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill., May 28, 2014 – UL DQS Inc., one of the leading certification bodies for Environmental Management Systems in the world, has been approved by the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB) to begin issuing certificates to the 2013 Revisions for the RC 14001 standard and Responsible Care Management System (RCMS).

UL DQS Inc. Responsible Care (RC) auditors, who are located in the U.S., China, and India, completed their training and qualification for this accreditation process in December 2013.

RC is a global chemical industry performance initiative implemented in the U.S. and mandatory for members and partners of the American Chemistry Council (ACC). The RC 14001 Standard originally was released in 2002. The 2013 revisions incorporate changes based upon issues identified by members, partners, registrars, and board recommendations on waste and energy efficiency.

“As an ANAB RC accredited registrar, UL DQS Inc. understands the importance the RC program plays for ACC, its members, partners and the chemical industry in general, through value add assessments,” said Michael Caruso, Vice President – Certifications, UL DQS Inc. “We provide these assessments for clients worldwide, and UL DQS was the first registrar globally to certify a client outside the US in Asia.”

In the U.S., according to the ACC, Responsible Care has resulted in reduced emissions by 75 percent and an employee safety record that is four and a half times better than the average of the U.S. manufacturing sector.

UL DQS Inc. customers registered to the 2008 version of the standards will be upgraded to the new 2013 revisions during their surveillance and recertification audits, and all new registrations are being conducted to the new standard. All existing customers should be upgraded to the 2013 revisions by the end of 2014.

UL DQS Inc. now offers registration to RC-14001 and RCMS as part of its outstanding client service package of management system certifications worldwide. UL DQS Inc. is an official “Friend of Responsible Care” organization and sees itself as a partner to clients on the road to certification and Environmental Health and Safety Services (EHSS) performance improvement.
