BUFFALO GROVE, Ill.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–UL DQS Inc., one of the leading certification bodies for management systems in the world, has recently received accreditation of its ISO 50001 Energy Management System program by the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB). ISO 50001 enables an organization to follow a systematic approach in achieving continual improvement of energy performance, including efficiency, use and consumption.

“American corporations now are frequently viewing energy management as a form of risk management”

In addition to the economic costs, inefficient energy use can impose environmental and societal costs by depleting resources and contributing to problems such as greenhouse gas emissions and other related environmental impacts.

“American corporations now are frequently viewing energy management as a form of risk management,” said Ganesh Rao, president and CEO, UL DQS Inc. “What once was managed as a cost is increasingly being managed as a strategic risk – and as a source of new value and opportunities. Offering this certification enhances the UL DQS suite of sustainability services and showcases our commitment to provide our clients with true, valued-added services.”

UL DQS Inc. is one of just two organizations in the world to attain ANAB accreditation for its ISO 50001 program for Energy Management Systems. Through a strategic partnership with world-renowned Schneider Electric in Smyrna, Tenn., UL DQS was able to conduct the company’s corporate witness audit, which was a critical phase in UL DQS’s ANAB accreditation process and necessary for Schneider Electric to achieve ISO 50001 certification of their Smyrna, Tenn. facility.

“ISO 50001 is more relevant today than ever before. Consider the use of energy throughout the supply chain of a business – from raw materials in the very beginning through to recycling at the very end. Improved energy performance can help an organization maximize its energy sources and energy-related assets, reducing both cost and consumption,” said Joe Bhatia, president and CEO, American National Standards Institute.

UL DQS offers assessments and certifications, along with on-line and on-site training activities to help companies navigate the requirements of ISO 50001. For more information on certification programs and education provided by UL DQS Inc., please visit: http://www.dqsus.com/.
